Scarfs: stupid or staple?

As you may have guessed, todays post is about scarfs. Love them or hate them, scarfs seem to be everywhere now a days. So how do you style them and where are they all coming from?

Scarfs might seem a bit random for a student blog but here's why scarfs are fabulous:
  • Changing your scarf is like changing your outfit. Forget about clothes stress everyday... A new scarf can 100% pass as a new outfit!
  • Hairs not on fleek today? No worries, just wear a big knit scarf today and no one will ever know.
  • Then there's the obvious: scarfs are bloody snuggly!!
  • Ever loved a jacket but couldn't find a top that looks as gorgeous with it as you hoped? Simply shove your fav scarf over that stupid top and get on with your day :)

Infinity scarf

Otherwise known as a loop or circle scarf, infinity scarves are both trendy and incredibly comfy. Either leave it loose by simple draping it once round your neck. Or go for the slightly more warm option of looping it twice round your neck. However you wear it, woollen, thick and snuggly, infinity scarfs are always cute over a jacket or coat and provide a great place to warm up your hands.

Rectangle scarf
My favourites! I love rectangle scarfs, I feel like they add class, style and a lil bit of uniqueness to every outfit. (Is uniqueness a word?! I dunno...) They're a bit thinner than an infinity scarf so I wear mine in autumn/spring. With so many ways to wear them, they're very versatile. You could go for the classic draped over the shoulder (either on one side like the photo above, or on both sides.)

I personally love it unwrapped so it just hangs on both sides very long. I think it gives quite a modern twist to a classic jeans and Chelsea boots outfit.

Square scarf

Now this is a more spring/summer scarf. Normally made of silk or other lighter material, square scarfs are more for accessorising than keeping warm. There are so many styles and materials to choose from that a new scarf equals a new outfit! Perfect for when people are starting to notice that 'you wore that top last Thursday, didn't you?'

Square scarfs are also versatile, occasion wise as well. Whether its a cute girls brunch or a classy city break; they add a bit of colour and personality to any outfit.

So you've chosen your favourite style, but where do you get it from?!

Everywhere

Obviously I'm joking, I'll help a bit more than that. But seriously guys, scarfs are literally taking over right now. And seeing as we are just coming out of winter, now is the perfect time to buy them (in the spring sales!)

If you need any help looking, here are some links for ya'll to check out:

Newlook scalves have such a good range which aren't too bad priced!

Urban Outfitters do some fabulous scalves (speaking as an unbiased owner of an urban outfitters scarf)

Topshop 's range isn't as great but they're always nice quality so have a look!

I hope you like this post and feel inspired to jump and ride along with the scarf fever that is taking over the nation. If you are sporting a new scarf and want to show it off, tweet me and I'll have a look! (@LauraStone_)

  1. I wear scarves every single day to school, its the perfect staple in my wardrobe and its something that's so easy to wear and make an outfit out of. I also get some acne on my chest and this helps cover it as well!
